Qualifying Micro Entities receive free advisory consultation and reports on their innovation concept.

Reduced Rates.

Following the USPTO fee structure, we grant substantial discounts to individuals and organizations based on their classification:

Small Entity: 50% reduction on hourly rate and most service fees.

Micro-Entity: 75% reduction on hourly rate and most service fees.

Entity Definitions.

In accordance with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) status classes, the Nikola Institute follows a simplified three-tiered entity status system. The purpose is to maintain financial accessibility of innovation services, as defined in our Access to Innovation Program. See also: USPTO Patent Pro Bono Program.

Micro-Entity

Typically an individual or new company. Eligible for no-fee Advisory Report, consultation, and 75% fee reduction on most services.

Typically a small company with fewer than 500 employees. Eligible for 50% fee reduction on most services.

Regular Status

Any entity which does not qualify for “Small” or “Micro” status does not qualify for pro bono fee reduction.
